  • Overview

    We are looking for a Manager of Compliance to join our team in San Diego. This position is a leader in compliance at ZOLL Data Systems, Inc.; Golden Hour Data Systems, Inc. (“Golden Hour”); emsCharts, Inc.; and their affiliates engaged in the business of the Data Division (collectively, the “Data Division”), with a focus on revenue cycle management, in collaboration with the Chief Compliance Officer, Managing Technology Counsel, Privacy Officer, Security Officer and other compliance staff.  This position exists because of the rapidly growing Data Division’s need for pragmatic compliance practices that will propel growth and realistically manage risk.


    As part of a team composed of the Chief Compliance Officer, Managing Technology Counsel, Privacy Officer, Security Officer and other compliance staff, this position is responsible at the Data Division for the following:


    • Assessing compliance risks.
    • Oversight. Overseeing the implementation and monitoring of the compliance program.
    • Policies, Procedures and Controls. Drafting, maintaining and updating policies, procedures and controls including, with respect to revenue cycle management, the methods for improving the efficiencies and quality of services and reducing vulnerability to fraud, waste and abuse and developing and implementing an Annual Work Plan.
    • Training Developing, coordinating and participating in multifaceted educational and training program regarding compliance, including new hire training for revenue cycle management.
    • Providing guidance regarding compliance, except for legal advice.
    • Assisting financial management in coordinating internal compliance review and monitoring including, with respect to revenue cycle management, (i) conducting annual or periodic reviews of departments; (ii) analyzing billing data by application of logical filters on a monthly basis to determine compliant billing based on modifiers;, ICD-10 codes, sending and receiving locations, vehicle type, assigned HCPC codes and levels of service; and (iii) conducting exit interviews for employees.
    • Subject to the investigation process for ZOLL Medical Corporation and its subsidiaries, investigating and acting on matters relating to compliance including, with respect to revenue cycle management, having the flexibility to design and coordinate internal investigations (e.g., responding to reports or problems or suspected violations) and any resulting corrective action with all billing departments, providers and sub-providers, agents and, if appropriate, independent contractors.
    • Monitoring developments and changes in compliance requirements including, with respect to revenue cycle management, in the policies and procedures of government and private payor health plans.
    • Revising the compliance program periodically based on changes in the Division’s needs and law and, with respect to revenue cycle management, in the policies and procedures of government and private payer plans.
    • Ensuring that Golden Hour does not employ or contract with individuals for revenue cycle management that have been sanctioned by the Office of Inspector General or barred from federal procurement programs.
    • Coordinating compliance functions with customers in the revenue cycle management business.
    • Providing overall leadership for compliance.
    • Simplifying compliance without sacrificing effectiveness.




    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
    • 5+ years of experience in compliance for third-party medical billing companies.
    • 5+ years of experience leading a compliance function.
    • In-depth billing, coding, documentation and other expertise pertaining to third-party medical billing.
    • Compliance certifications preferred- specifically commercially reasonable certifications with respect to healthcare and coding (for example, a Certificate in Health Care Compliance). 
    • Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures and controls.
    • Ability to be strategic, pragmatic and creative in finding ways to solve problems and build and enhance compliance while also supporting the Data Division’s primary business objectives.
    • Ability to analyze and understand facts and risks and make recommendations based on likelihood and magnitude.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop strong relationships and handle difficult situations with diverse people in software development, product management, site reliability engineering, information technology, human resources, legal, privacy, sales and other divisions.
    • Outstanding listening, communication, team building, project management, leadership, presentation and training skills and the ability to translate complex concepts into plain English.
    • Excellent writing skills and ability to clearly, concisely and precisely communicate in plain English.
    • Exceptional analytical skills and ability to independently, pragmatically and creatively resolve key issues.
    • Ability to multi-task and demonstrated organizational, detail orientation, prioritization skills and time management skills to ensure that work related activities are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team oriented, high demand and fast-paced environment.

    • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and work with highly sensitive data and information.
    • Solid communication skills to effectively deal with various levels of management, staff and outside contacts.
